I have done PGD-HRM from distance learning from NMIMS and working as recruiter since last two and half years. It looks like my PG course is not so benifited to give me better job. I am looking to do MSW as I saw so many people having MSW are at good place in HR field.
Can someone please suggest me wheter doing MSW will help me our (preferebly in distance learning as I am working fulltime).
Also, can someone please sugget me the university offers MSW though distance learning mode.

Distance Learning Dilutes Education and Learning
There is a crazy rush to get degrees every where. Everybody wants to add degrees after degrees. Masters and now Doctorate is also available thru distance learning. One needs to introspect and satisfy oneself as to did he / she acquire real knowledge or only added one more degree to his/her name. Moreover what is the use of adding such degrees? No wise employer is going to give any recognition or weightage to such degrees.
Thanks to Mr. Prabhakar Tripathi for sharing very good and important news and UGC Directive on the subject.
As it is quality of education, quality of faculty and quality of evaluation even in case of many full time programs is suspect and deplorable. It is further more diluted in distance learning.
Everybody should strive to get quality education and not merely a degree. One should check and recheck the credentials of institute/university and program before enrolling.

MSW is genric course offering oppurtunities in various field like hr , legal , social services etc.
If you want to make your carieer in HR with generalist profile i would reccm. u to go for NSW.

MSW is really the best of the courses available when it comes to understanding the HR function strongly. The Field works on 2 days a week and the internships and Block Placements provides the students the optimum exposure.

I have done MSW, from Punjab. I suggest you to go by regular one because the exposure that you get in, will not be in distance learning. Yes it is a good degree, but it will be more good if you do it from some renowned university and what do you think about MBA. In MSW there are very interesting subjects HR, CO, medical social work, psychology etc..... and they all will help. All the best. I you have any query, feel easy to contact.

MBA has just been marketed well. I find i t rather hyped by every other college in the neighborhood calling themselves a management institute and offering a MBA.
But for those who have committed themselves in obtaining MSW like Satnam and I know it's true value.
We really learn tangible management concepts from an MSW like a specialization in Human Resource Management. Social Work views Business and it related activities under it's domain and this is how it should be!
Business now view Social Work as a mere Corporate Social Responsibility and a way to promote it's so called Brand Value and satisfy their's and the Share holders consciousness.
Now, this preposition brought out a crises like the current economic downturn.
The attitude of gabbing and consuming and making more profits is the absolute aim of most MBA's. But recognizing the community and people around us makes a great visible and most powerful invisible differences.
Being a MSW, I understand the other functions of Business like Finance, Logistics and Operations in a realistic manner as I have been to field work(Twice an 5 day working week ), Summer Placement(between 1st and 2nd year) and Block Placement(After the 2nd year final exams). Listed below is my detailed list during the course itself:
- Human Resource and Social Work Internship with World Vision for 1st and 2nd Semester. [June, 2007 - November, 2007 & December, 2007 - April, 2008]
- Human Resource Summer Internship with SIEMENS information processing services. [May, 2008]

Neither MBA nor MSW or for that matter any degree is bad, provided you study from reputed institute / college. All the institutes print glossy brochures with lot of imaginary content. When it comes to delivering they are big zero. They do not have infrastructure, good faculty and industry interface to give students right exposure.
Obtaining degree should not be the aim but to obtain real knowledge and practical exposure. Choose only such institute with good standing to pursue your studies. Mind you, you will have to come really good to get admission in reputed institutes and will have to compete with brilliant students to get admission and to complete the studies.
I agree with Mr. Ivan Antony John that, MBA course is hyped up and it is being offered by every institute and college round the corner like any ordinary degree and that is why it is diluted and lost its value.MSW is also offered by many institutes and there is also a big variation in quality standards. Mr. Ivan Antony John has done his MSW from a very reputed institution like Madras Christian College (Chennai), that’s why he got such a good exposure and knowledge but unfortunately majority institutes are selling only cheap, substandard degrees at a very high price.
