I would like to add a little more.
Identify the areas which would make your MD succesful.Remember if you make your MD, Boss successful they will always count on you.Undestand from MD what are the areas where he wants you to contribute for makimg him succesful.
Then you can prepare your own action plan regardijng how to go about it.

Dear Vipul,
To add further take up initiatives which will impact profits of the company. You can also think of ways to cut unnecessary costs in your department.
For Example - You can impact profits by modifying the recruitment process and thus recruiting innovative, talented people, take up small training sesions on behavioural topics which are most desired by your staff (example- personality development, problem solving etc).Take up initiatives for employee engagement which will again lead to higher productivity of existing workforce.
Some initiatives like SWOT analysis, Generation X and Y study will also add lot of value.
Focus on developing the junior and middle level staff and thus the overall prodcutivity of the firm will go up surely.

Hi Vipul,
Well this is the great chance for u to groom ur self as working with the Sr. Deptt is an opportunity which usually comes after struggling so much.....like we have to start from Jr level to reach there. I m on the same post now i am going to be completed 6 years in my company... Just think and observe what ur MD wants, do according to him like his expectations from u. What he wants and so on.... when i was fresher that time i really did hard work to gain his satisfaction that time i had to devote most of the time in using internet and surfing for what ... how i can improve my self like he wanted to see me efficient in MS Office task i had a basic knowledge bt with the help of willing power i could achieve which he wanted...i have to devote extra time on surfing and viewing some documents and soft files of the company to improve my self, so go ahead and u can do this... bt keep patience....All the best
