Hi all,
I am aware of the fact that when an employee takes a long leave on the weekends, say from friday to monday, then the in-between saturday and sunday is considered as leave. Again it depends from one company to another as per their orders if they consider or not. As far as my company is concerned, we do consider the in-between sat and sun as offs and the leave number is deducted.
But i'm stuck on these circumstances if sat and sun will be considered as leaves or not:
1. What if an employee takes an off on friday (CL) and applies for sick leave on monday morning? (if reason being genuine or not)
2. Sick leaves from friday to monday?

Ideally after 4/5 days physical working employee is entitled for Paid Weekly off so to be considered as OFF and not Leave in such cases.

Sir, they do have paid weekly offs. Saturdays and sundays. If they attend work on friday and take off on monday and onwards their weekends arent considered. Or otherwise, they take off on friday and report to work on monday it is still not considered. Only when they take off from friday to monday on a stretch and report to work on tuesday their CL's get deducted including sat and sun. Thats the statutory law but again its independent on the company policies. But our company follows it. They do deduct.
My question is, what if a person takes a CL on friday for a leave and applies SL on monday? During sick cases also do we consider the weekends? If yes, SL is deducted or CL for sat and sun? Does the law hold the same rule whether it is CL or SL? Details are described in my question.

Dear Aishwarya,
It is completely dependent on your company policy, as if you consider off's between the sandwich leave as leave only then it should be consider as leave only. Many companies has the policy where they do not allow to club CL with SL but as your company allow the same thus you may take the decision but ideally you should count off's under leave.

We do not club SL with CL. Its not in our policy either. Im trying to understand your input. My query is that, if an employee wants to avoid deductions on his number of CL's, he plans on applying for a sick leave on monday after taking CL from friday to avail a long weekend, should we still deduct sat and sun as CL?

Dear Madam,
If the local Shops Act in Karnataka does not permit sandwich leave( In Maharashtra it is permitted), company policy should discourage it.
You will appreciate that weekly off is earned by the employee by working for six days ( In your case Five days) prior and that is his legal right.
But when it comes to the tendency of employees to enjoy long weekends by clubbing CL and SL, in this case, your policy is right in treating intervening weekly offs /holidays as leave.
Since in the instant case the employee availed CL on Friday, in my opinion , it would be proper to treat two days of weekly off as CL.
