Dear Friends,
Pls. throw some light on forming of safety committee in a larger organisation.
As per IF the safety committee should comprise equal proportion of workmen and management people. Now explain how to proportionate when an organisataion employs larger number of workmen (labor, operators etc.,) and lesser number of management people and secondly explain the situation when 90% of workmen population is contractual. Also pls. explain how the committee should be structured(Bodies).

Hi there,
I might know one or two things on committees. To form a committee you need
Terms of Reference of the committee Defined with in that document you need to include the following
*Definition of the committee
*Objectives
*Business Requirement OR Purpose of Forming the Committee
*Who are the members and what are their roles in that committee
Chair person - Usually the HSE officer of the company
Dy Chairperson
Secretary of Committee
Members
*What is the target of the committee (target achieved)
* Frequency of meetings
Word of Advice
To have proper Safety Committee which can report and control safety aspects in the company irrespective to the industry you should have a member in the committee that represent each department in the company i.e. (admin. HR, Marketing, Project, Operations, ) depends of the size of the company.
These employees should be focal point for the following:
*Incident reporting – u need a form & process for this
*First Aid Kit – Custodian
*Assisting the Safety department in spreading Safety/ HSE Awareness.
*They are the ones to be trained on a professional level in all safety aspects with in their capacity.
Don’t forget that all employees of company also have to have awareness sessions on Safety Aspects, Basic First Aid, Fire Drilling
Hope information provided will be of use for you
