Job purpose of the Distribution Operations Manager is to be responsible for the success of assigned functions within a complex distribution center environment to ensure that it is an outstanding place to work.
Key duties/responsibilities of the Distribution Operations Manager:
1. Check and verify shipping records, handle questions or concerns regarding shipping shortages or overages and address problems with inventory control.
2. Organize services for each business division while maintaining and improving overall operational and departmental efficiencies.
3. Interface cross-functionally at all levels within the divisions of the company, including communication with offshore/subsidiary management, external resources and concerns such as freight forwarders, third-party providers, and governmental agencies.
4. Troubleshoot and provide solutions for issues of moderate to complex scope.
5. Ensure proper compliance and adherence to all appropriate health and safety regulations and cleanliness requirements are followed concerning personal and inventory safety.
6. Participate on divisional management teams and provide direct support to the divisions.
7. Oversee the day-to-day operations of finished goods and raw material warehouse. Direct the operations of the warehouse team to achieve objectives.
8. Manage a staff of approximately 38 with four direct reports.
9. Effect necessary communication and motivation to staff. Monitor individual performance via observation and review of various productivity metrics. Counsel and discipline as necessary.
10. Develop and maintain a productive work team through training and career development.
11. Consistently promote a strong corporate culture, quality, and high-performance work teams.
12. Promote continuous improvement including strategic reviews for the warehouse-related functions utilizing quality processes and participation in high-performance and self-directed work teams.
13. Responsible for administrative functions such as budgeting, equipment, and liaison to Customer Service.
14. Act as a logistics facilitator to ensure that all elements of the domestic and international distribution process are coordinated to meet customer requirements in a timely and high-quality manner.
15. Develop and ensure that established policies, rules, regulations, and procedures are followed.
16. Develop visible procedures and key performance indicators to monitor quality and regular measurements to determine the effectiveness of procedures implemented.
17. Meet or exceed established goals relative to on-time delivery and shipping accuracy performance for customer shipments.
18. Improve operational efficiencies to increase the ability to process customer orders using both systems and physical improvements.
19. Meet with other department heads about sales, purchasing, production, and record control, so that warehouse activities remain coordinated and running smoothly.
20. Keep stock control systems up to date and plan future capacity requirements.
21. Ensure proper compliance and adherence to Export/Import Administration Regulations.
22. May oversee short-duration projects related to transportation, logistics, export regulations, and related functions.
23. Provide warehouse safety leadership and be responsible for improved safety performance in the facility.
24. Oversee warehousing activities to ensure processes and procedures are understood and followed; oversee warehouse compliance for inventory management, cycle counting, product handling, and other services as required.
25. Develop a leadership team and provide daily oversight for all operational requirements for warehouse operational staff; lead and develop hourly workforce teams in a union environment.
26. Drive cost savings with a focus on Visibility, Variability, and Velocity.
27. Provide proactive communications and solutions for distribution issues.
28. Coordinate warehousing execution for divisional strategies; develop specific warehousing requirements based on strategic plans and customer expectations; design the appropriate warehousing solution that incorporates logistics best practices.
29. Provide direction for systems improvements and changes to operational requirements.
