Seniors, I am working as a BD in a small Software firm based in Chennai. I have had an opportunity to work for a CMM Level 5 company in Chennai. The position would involve starting up the operations in Chennai Individually and doing Business Development in the south. Though not a great hike, I like the profile and company.
However, the reason I looked for a change is that My Boss isn't allowing me to grow and masking from opportunities. Also, Client commitments given in consultations with my boss are not kept up which puts me in an embarrassing situation every time with a client and spoils my name with the client.
Now.. when i attempt to resign from my company... My boss doesn't allow me. Since I can't say all these reasons straight away.. I said Career Growth is the main reason & to an extend money is also the reason. He wants me to tell him my plan and he says they will try to match it in the company. I know my boss is very smart and will not keep his commitments. Also i have been here for three years, so i know that things will not change..
Now. I am stuck ...I don't know what to say .. But I want to grab the opportunity which comes very rarely... I am ready to serve my notice period however my resignation is not considered at all...
Please guide me and tell me my reasons for getting out of the company without hurting anyone's ego . I want to go out in good terms personally or professionally.
Expecting your suggestions.. This involves my career. Please

Hi,
First of all I would congratulate you for the new offer.
As you have mentioned, the company where you are working now is a small company and the other company is CMM Level 5, so this should be the sufficient reason to quit the present job and join the new one.
Apart from the position profile the company profile also matters a lot. You can mention about your career growth in the new company to your boss and I think he will agree with you and accept your resignation.
All the very best to you.

Make it very clear to your boss that you will not budge from your decision no matter what happens. Whenever he brings the topic of changing your job profile to suit your needs, ensure you clarify and tell him about your intentions. Place in your resignation again. Also bring up the topic of your notice period and confirm your dates for the same. This should make it sound final.

Hi:
All you need to do is be confident in asking for the approval of resignation.
You can always say that you've learnt a lot from him and the company. However everyone needs to move in life. And you have your own reasons to move on.
Believe me its all about manipulation of words and making the other person realize that you if not today then tomorrow you'll leave.

Dear Kumar,
here two things kumar....
1. Leave the Organisation at any cost -
In this case, though your boss insists you to tell, you need not necessarily tell him. There is no such thing that if you dont share your new offer with your boss, you will loose relationship with him. Once you are out of the present organisation he is no more your boss and his treatment to you changes, probably he tries to make friendship with you.
2. Trying for a different profile and hike in salary.
You may tell to your boss exactly what kind of profile your are thinking to have is offered to you in the new offer. Regarding package you may quote a bit higher than what is quoted in the new offer. Your both ends shall be fullfilled in the same organisation.

Dear Kumar,
If you have already commited with your Boss that you are leaving for better prospects, then you can shine your statement like this...
quote a very very higher salary saying wat otehr company offered you. Your Boss cannot offer you that much by breaking company band with at the same time he cannot stop ur career growth
If not say, that you wanna move to hyderabad as your Grandma is staying alone so u wanna be with her... some otehr bla bla bla...

Dear Kumar,
You have taken the decision to quit after considering all the pros and cons. The decision is not taken for negotiating for pay hike or promotion. As such, you have to stick to your stand and be firm in leaving. Since you have already informed your boss your intention of leaving, definitely he would have lost the trust in you and he will look at you from a different angle. You need not reveal about new offer or salary. Stick to your reason that there is no opportunity for career growth which is the correct reason as per your mail. No harm in talking the truth. Please avoid giving silly reasons.
At the same time, evaluate your new offer and find out whether the career growth is there for you.
This is my opinion based on my experience in HR. Decision ultimately, is yours.
