Hi members,

I have been through the replies of members and found that most of them are considering 30 days for the calculation of salary. However, here I have a doubt for all those who are calculating based on 30 days for salary.

1. If the number of working days in a month is less, such as compensatory offs as commonly seen in the manufacturing sector, how do you calculate the salary in such situations?

2. As per our laws, we take 26 days as the standard for calculating earned leave, gratuity, etc., indicating that weekly offs are not considered paid rest days.

Hi,

Compensatory off is given to all employees who have worked on their non-working days, i.e., weekly offs like Saturdays, public holidays, and Sundays. Since this comp off is going to be counted as a paid working day, the calculation of salary would be based on 30 days. The calculation of gratuity and EL is based on 26 days because we do not count all four Sundays when calculating the same.

Hi Katyana,

Thank you for your reply, but my actual question is: when we consider 26 days for all statutory compliances, which means weekly offs are not taken into account, then why should we use 30 days for calculating salary?

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Thank you.
