Respected members,

I will be completing my MSWC (Master in Social Work Counseling) this year 2019-2021 in June. Since I want to pursue my Ph.D. as well, but it's a long way, I wish to be financially independent before I proceed with it. Therefore, I'm looking for guidance and suggestions on how to make this master's degree more valuable. What else can be added with MSWC?

Any course on psychiatry or clinical psychology would be a valuable addition. Moreover, it would be worth considering gaining some practical experience; you may try your chance with any NGO working in related fields.

Dear MSWC,

MSWC itself is valuable. Now it's upon you how you contribute more to make it even more valuable. In my opinion, you need to join an NGO immediately to gain further insights into your field, which will provide you with practical exposure. This experience will enrich your practical knowledge, and you may discover your future career path from there!

Thank you.

Dear Friend,

It would be better to take up a job that matches your MSWC and the subject chosen for your Ph.D. It is difficult to provide any concrete advice without knowing the specifics of your MSWC course, as courses vary across universities. I recommend consulting your professor who can offer guidance and assistance, as universities undertake numerous projects from government and other agencies.

In my opinion, there is no need to pursue another degree since you have already decided to pursue a Ph.D. Instead, focus on activities that can enhance your expertise in your specialized subject. You could consider working on developing software tools that could be utilized in the social welfare field you are interested in.

Dear Colleague,

It has not been communicated by you your field of counseling specialization in MSW - Marriage counseling, career guidance, mental health, or others. Additionally, it is unclear which career path you are interested in pursuing - teaching, research, freelance counseling, or an administrative role within an NGO or government organization.

Depending on your clarity regarding the points mentioned above, gaining practical experience by working with an NGO could be a valuable addition.

Pursuing a Ph.D. may be more advantageous if you are considering a career in teaching or research.
