Dear Thirumurugan,
As per the Tamilnadu Industrial Establishments (National and Festival Holidays) Act, 1958, every employer has to grant 4 National holidays and 5 festival holidays every year to the employees employed in his industrial establishment.
The 5 festivals for which holidays are to be granted have to be approved by the inspector under the Act. This is a one-time exercise only unless they are modified.
Based on the approved holidays, the employer has to submit the list of such national and festival holidays pertaining to every calendar year before its commencement, i.e., before the 31st December of the previous year.
These 4 + 5 holidays are the minimum only. If the employer desires, he can grant more number of festival holidays.
