I would like to know what recruiters actually look for when they come for campus recruitments. How should I prepare for this so that I can get a good job? What should I read apart from my textbooks? I am also a UBS pass out - 2005 batch. I did MBA in HR. So, according to me, you need just SELF-CONFIDENCE to crack GDs and interviews. Be confident in what you say and make sure to look as smart as you can. Small things can make a difference, like having a good diet before going for a GD so that you can speak with full energy and a clear mind.
Try to initiate the talk, even if you don't know much about the topic. You can start by simply welcoming everyone and introducing the topic.

You need to take care of a few things in order to crack a GD. Cracking GD is not rocket science, but unfortunately, even some of the brightest and most intelligent students face immense trouble in cracking a GD and hence lose out on good companies.
TIPS:
1. READ THE NEWSPAPERS. COMPREHEND THE MATTER, WHATEVER YOU HAVE READ, AND THEN THINK ABOUT IT IN YOUR MIND. THIS WILL MAKE THE MATTER AND THE DATA MORE CLEAR, AS WELL AS ENHANCE YOUR THINKING SKILLS.
2. PICK UP ANY TOPIC, ABSTRACT OR BUSINESS-RELATED, AND PRACTISE GD WITH YOUR FRIENDS, MAKING A GROUP OF AT LEAST 3 OR 4 PEOPLE. THIS WILL BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE AND ALSO HELP YOU KNOW WHERE YOU NEED TO WORK ON YOUR GD SKILLS. THIS WILL ALSO HELP YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MORE YOU NEED TO STUDY.
3. WHEN YOU PUT FORWARD ANY POINT DURING THE GD, SAY IT WITH CONFIDENCE AND WITH CONVICTION AND NEVER BE SHAKY.
4. MAKE THE COMMENTS IN THE GD WITH THE HELP OF FACTS AND DATA. FOR EXAMPLE, YOU CAN STATE, "IN THE YEAR 2006, THE NUMBER OF MURDERS WAS 200, AND IN THIS YEAR, IT HAS RISEN TO 400," AND SO ON.
5. WHILE PUTTING FORWARD POINTS, MENTION SOME OF THE MOTIVATIONAL THEORIES, LEADERSHIP THEORIES BY RELATING THEM TO THE POINT YOU ARE MAKING. THIS IS HIGH MARKS FETCHING AND WILL AUTOMATICALLY DIVERT THE ATTENTION OF THE RECRUITER TOWARDS YOU. THE MAIN INTENTION IN THE GD IS TO ATTRACT THE ATTENTION OF THE RECRUITER BY MAKING STUNNING POINTS WHICH NO ONE IS MAKING.
6. ONE BIG PROBLEM MANY STUDENTS FACE DURING THE GD IS BEING STOPPED FROM SPEAKING BY BEING INTERRUPTED BY OTHERS. IF SOMEONE CUTS OR STOPS YOU FROM MAKING YOUR POINT, JUST PROCEED WITH IT BY SIMPLY RAISING YOUR VOICE OR BY TELLING HIM, "LET ME FINISH MY POINT" IN A VERY FIRM MANNER. DON'T GET SUPPRESSED BY SOMEONE ELSE. EVERY PARTICIPANT IS BEING GIVEN 3 OR 4 MINUTES DURING THE GD, SO MAKE FULL USE OF IT AND DON'T LET ANYONE UTILIZE YOUR TIME FOR HIS GOOD.
7. DON'T BE SARCASTIC IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH ANY POINT MADE BY YOUR GD MEMBERS.
8. ENTER THE GD WITH NEW AND INNOVATIVE POINTS AND NEVER REPEAT THE POINTS THAT YOU HAVE MENTIONED OR ANYONE HAS MENTIONED.
These are all the points that I could help you with. I was one of the people who was unable to crack the GDs, but within 3 days, I picked up all my knowledge and cracked any GD I sat for, and my participants saw the distinctive change in me.
