I have 3.5 years of extensive experience as a recruiter, with 3 years in India and 6 months in Dubai where I am currently working in an MNC. I want to learn about other HR-related functions, specifically in the generalist area. Is it wise for me to make this shift, and how can I possibly do it? Are there any companies currently seeking individuals for such a position?

Hi,

I have gone through your content. My advice is that you have extensive experience of 3+ years. However, as I have been in the market for about 5 years, I suggest that if you can shift your focus from being a recruiter to the technical side, it would be better. A technical HR-related field is a good choice because growth exclusively in the recruiter field may not be sufficient. Therefore, learn one or more technologies based on your interest and explore the possibilities on the technical HR side. Put your efforts into one particular technology for about 3 months and update your resume on any job portal to secure a definite career in technical HR. All the best.

Hi,

To my understanding, I believe that there are very few companies in the industry that would hire a recruiter for a Generalist role. The best way to make a move would be internally within your company. Develop a good understanding with your HR representative and try to transition internally. Otherwise, if you venture into the external market, it could be quite challenging to secure a position as a Generalist.

I think Ramesh gave a very nice flick to your query. This is the way you can jump over, and I believe in the near future HR is going to be a Technical Interviewer as well. Please give your comments on this.

Hi,

I feel it is the right time for you to shift now. HR functions are much broader than a recruiter. The scope of work is good. You will enjoy your job as a lot of learning is involved. You can also do an HR diploma course to sharpen your skills. All the best.

Thank you for all your replies.

In fact, I did technical hiring for 3 years, so I have extensive experience there. Now, I'm looking at all sales/BD related positions. Basically, I'm tired of recruiting. Please advise.

Even I have been doing technical recruiting for 3+ years now. I'm tired of it. I am a BCom graduate with a Diploma in HR and currently pursuing an MBA (DLP) from MKU University. Is there a way to move into either ERP - SAP or Peoplesoft Technical consulting with this qualification? Do reply.
