Dear Bigb4u7,

It appears that you have confusion between succession planning and career planning. The former is for grooming a person for the position of CEO or becoming a board member. The latter is to groom an employee so that he/she can execute the job of a senior position effectively.

Secondly, the principles of succession planning do change as per the industry or company.
