Hello seniors,
I am Lathika. I recently joined the company as an HR executive. I finished my MBA this year and got placed in a company that deals with FMCG products. Now, my problem is that my company is a small company that is 3 years old. My senior HR has resigned from the job, and now I am the only HR working with the company. Until now, I have been handling only recruitment and payroll processes in my company. I have to take this opportunity to bring some positive changes to my company, which is currently facing a crisis. Please suggest what changes and improvements I can implement as an HR to help the company earn good profits.
I want to make a difference in my company, but I am not sure what exactly to do. We have 10 members working in the head office, and we have 2 salespersons in each state across India, making the sales team nearly 50 members. Please provide some suggestions.
Thank you.

Hi, it's a good opportunity for you to learn lots of things. But for the help that you are asking for, firstly, you have to tell in which area you want to seek help and where you feel that development is required.
Best of luck

All right seniors, let me be very clear with all of you.
As I mentioned earlier, my senior HR has resigned from the job, and now I have to oversee all HR activities. The problem is that as my company is small, we do not have a proper system. I want to develop that. Except for recruitment and payroll, no other HR work is being done in my company. Even my previous HR was not very experienced, and I also joined as a fresher. I do not have any proper training or guidance from any of my seniors.
The following are the activities that I am currently handling:
- Recruiting (I conduct the initial round. We usually recruit sales teams for other states. I call candidates with experience in sales and marketing through phone and conduct the initial round of interviews. If I feel they are suitable for the profile, I ask them to present their documents. My MD will then take the final round through the phone, and we issue an offer letter to the selected candidate).
- Employee induction
- Attendance (I collect daily visit reports from the sales team and prepare their attendance sheet)
- Follow up with the sales team regarding their performance
- Sending "thoughts for the day" emails and welcome and birthday wishes emails
- Maintaining employee records
- Payroll
- Some admin work like sending mails to printers for employees' ID cards and visiting cards.
Until now, I have been doing only the above tasks every day. I know there is a lot more to do in HR. However, nothing of that sort is happening in my company, and my boss is not concerned as he always focuses only on the sales team and revenue generation. I do not have job satisfaction as I know what I am doing is very little for the company.
Please tell me about all areas of HR that can be implemented in a small company like mine, especially what I can do in compensation and performance management. I have only theoretical knowledge, and there is no one to help me in my company. I do not know if I am clear in my communication, but I would be highly thankful if you understand my problem and help me in this regard.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks and Regards,
Lathika
