Hi All,

We are planning to introduce long service awards for all those who have completed 3 years and 5 years in the organization. Apart from giving engraved accolades, can someone suggest something very innovative and memorable? We have thought of giving Rs. 7,000/- for those who are completing 3 years and Rs. 12,000/- for those who have completed 5 years in the company.

Please share some of the good practices that are followed in the industry.

Thanks,
diksy

Hi Diksy,

Some more ideas to pen down:

1. Travel packages
2. Household utility items
3. Life insurance policies - (giving down first installments)
4. Dinner with family at the 5-stars

Yes, you can do anything, but don't forget to involve the employees' family. :-)

Hi Maria,

Here are the policies that you can implement. You can offer them:

1. Restricted Employee Share Option (RESOP) or ESOP
2. A new Vehicle (if employees are 2-5 who are going to complete 3 or 5 years)
3. Holiday tour/travel package for the employee (with family)
4. Home appliances
OR
5. Give an employee a memento for serving the organization with GM/Sr. Manager/Manager or with the head of the company/plant to the employee in the presence of other employees and his/her family members.

I think the last and first options are the better choices.

Hi Maria,

Apart from providing these gifts, you can organize a felicitation event where you invite the entire team the employee has worked with. It's a good opportunity for them to interact with each other. You can also consider presenting them with a bouquet, cake cutting, etc., which will be nice. If the day they complete 5 or 10 years falls on a holiday or weekend, you can arrange for a bouquet to be delivered to their residence with the help of a vendor.

Maria:

Radhika has made a very good point, and I am implementing this practice in my organization. You know, when you send a bouquet to someone's house, they feel really appreciated, and it makes them comfortable working with you.

Radhika:

Good thoughts, keep it up.
Thanks,
Mirza

Hi,

You can also prepare a small citation (a brief note on the employee regarding his contribution to the company) and read it out for the employee before presenting the award. Consider having the same words embossed on a wooden plate or another item to give to the employee as a memento. After all, who would not like to revisit it later in life, a memento with words of praise embossed on it? Think about it!
