I have heard that there are some companies who do not mention salary break up in appointment letter.Recently I have heard of an incidence where the employer has asked the HR dept to write in the Appointment letter a clause which will say "COMPENSATION- Details of the salary break up is attached in Annexure 1." but not to provide the employees with the annexure.
Is it really legal?

nO you got the info wrong many companies dont mention salary break up in OFFER LETTER and NOT IN APPT LETTER,, they sometimes might just mention AS DISCUSSED. to avoid employee misusing offer letters
but i feel this is stupid , dupid and foolish because tomorrow employer or employee can take advantage of as discussed and quote high/lower commitment given at time of interview.

as far as appt letter is considered in main letter they mention basic, grade, post etc and detailed salary components is attached as annexure,, so its compulsary to mention all details in appt letter .............
