If an employee is sick he/she can avail leave under Sick leave category. For long leave employee has to submit doctor certificate.
If his/her dependents are sick then all the leaves availed by the employee either comes under casual leave or earned leave. He/she cannot avail sick leave for their dependents.

In my opinion Babu is right, since as per the practices we are following sick leave is given when employee is sick not for the reason that dependents are sick..............................

Thanks Vivek and Sandeep this is how its been followed in all companies.
Sapna, every company allocates certain number of leaves as Sick leave and all the allocated leaves are paid leave. For better understanding i will take my sick leave as example. In our company sick leave is 12days and for us all that 12days are paid leave. If my sick leave exceeds 4days then the same has to be supported by a doctor certificate to avoid loss of pay.
Though all the leaves accumulated under sick leave is shown as leave in my attendence register it will not affect my salary sheet until and unless am within the allocated limit (i.e 12days) and in case if i exceed the number of sick leave (12days) that has been alloacted to me then it falls under loss of pay.
Hope it clear to you. Get back to me if you have anymore questions.
