Dear All,

I am Lavanya Kumar. My query is that I have been offered a position at a reputed bank, and they are requesting a relieving letter. However, my current employer has informed me that the relieving letter will be issued after 3-4 months. I have already submitted my resignation letter to my manager.

I am currently in my probation period with my current employer, and I have all my payslips and the appointment letter. Can I explain this situation to the new employer and request additional time to submit the relieving letter so that I can join immediately?

Thank you.

Hello Lavanya,

At the outset, congratulations on your new job. Changing the company during the probation period generally doesn't fetch any documentation. Still, it depends on your current company policies. A relieving letter is required to show proof and tenure of your work with the organization is valid and genuine. Otherwise, the last three months' salary slips and the appointment letter serve the purpose. You can talk to your new employer about the same, but make sure before you commit to any statement. There should not be any falsification of the data you provide to your new employer.

Hello Lavanya,

Shah is right. The pay-slips and offer letter should be okay. Also, if you have a copy of your resignation letter [acknowledged by your boss or HR], please take that too.

But what's the reason your present company gave to issue the relieving letter after 3-4 months? It shouldn't take so much time even for regular employees.

Hi,

It's possible that if you're not providing a sufficient notice period to your current employer, then they can hold your relieving formalities. In this type of situation, you have to convince your new employer that if they want you to join on an immediate basis, then you will submit the relieving letter after 3-4 months.
