Dear Arun,
Congratulations for your new job :)
coming to your query, I feel since your are offered a senior position assistant manager, Probably they want to make an enquiry abt your past experience, if you give them the bank statement it will give them the info whether your salary has been credited by the company every month with the same figure you denoted in your salary, I dont think asking for a bank statement is an issue to investigate abt your personal details.

Dear Arun,
Good wishes for the new offer.
Ya I agree with sreelatha. Since u are in HR u must be aware of the fact that people give fake information. So companies want to cross check the information . Fake salary slips can be easily made . so many a times companies ask for bank statement. And that is purely a part of process .
Thanks and Regards

My friends,
i do not agree with this view point. bank statement not only contain the salary transfer details but also other details which a prospective employer need not know or unnecessary to know. bank statement is to a large extend a personal document. If my info is correct, in US and Canada, the bank details of wife or hus can be known to their better half as per legal procedures only.
if one in hr is concerned to verify the salary claims there are many other ways to do so. after all checking ones own bank statement does not give you the correct information also.
therefore i feel you can say a firm no to the requirement
all the best

Hi Sunil,
I won't agree with you, the rule could be in US and Canada but not in India
More over I can say this is the simplest way through which employee verification can be made.
If you don't mind what would be that personnel matters apart from the regular transactions. what is that the can company do with that info.

hi latha,
Good that you have a different view point. i cited the case of US / Canada to highlight the practices that is happening in such advanced countries where your activities inside the office is being monitored so closely. Above all, we have learned 90% of all these practices from these countries only.
I may have a hundreds of dealing with several parties through my account. Take the case of credit cards itself. do i need to reveal to the company how many cards i have. or for that matter do i need to reveal the school fees paid to my children which is getting debited to my account.
why we have to go for all these troubles. if i produce a bank statement showing salary crediting more than my salary slip, will the company give me any benefit?
and if i am producing a salary certificate or an appointment letter which you cannot verify with my previous company or so, then definetly i can play with my account statement also.

Dear Arun,
You are right as to ask you about your past six months bank statment is not required at all.
What for the organization are doing reference checks. They can ask you for your last pay slip, your releiving letter, no dues certificate etc, but not your bank statment. This is totally vague thing now.
If this is their organizational policy to veryfy through bank statments even than this is to be done during reference checks and in the initial stages. Now as you have joined than to ask these kind of details is just a foolish act.

Dear Arun,
First of all congrates for your new job !!!!
Would like to let you know one thing in professional life also we have to face some circumstances, which doesn't come in rule at all but we need to do that things. It is somehing like this only.
Because I am very much agreed with the people, who are not in favor of this thing because they are having several options to check your statement but in the very start of your job you can't be ignore that First impression is the last one and if you will give them a negative reply so it would make a negative impression for your own self. Ofcourse there are several transections, which you will never like to disclose but it is not that much big issue at all so please be optimistic and do ahead !!!!
Best Of luck to you!!!
