According to World Health Organisation, during 2007-08 births were delivered by Caesarean-section. Shockingly, more than 60% of the hospitals studied where these C-sections took place did it for finacial gains and not because it was required. Experts say this boom in unnecessary C-section surgeries is jeopardizing women's health. 'Fear of labour makes these women opt for a Caesarean. The morbidity and mortality rates are much hhigher in such cases. Dr.A.Metin of WHO said, 'Caesarean section should be done only when there is a medical indication to improve the outcome for the mother or the baby'.
Keeping this in mind the experts in Southern India with their counterparts in UK, Germany and Malaysia have developed a new health programme to facilitate the young couple on giving birth to a child normally.
