Greetings!

Dear All,

I started my career with a job as HR manager in a KPO in Chandigarh. I have done MBA HR corros., in graduation I am B.Tech Biotechnology.

My area of work are:

 Overall responsibility of the Administration,

 Handling a team of more than 100 employees

 Recruitment,

 Payroll,

 Induction,

 Training and Development,

 Hr Policies,

 Appraisals,

 Maintaining E- attendance records,

 Maintaining Company’s decorum,

 Vendor Management.

I am looking after two shifts i.e. day as well as night.

Moreover, there is no HR executive under me and I am looking after everything alone with direct reporting to the MD.

My salary is 13,000/- per month.

I want to ask all the seniors here that:

1) Do you think I am rightly paid according to my responsibilities? If no, then what should be my approx. salary?

2) Is Training and development and induction also comes under my responsibility? Isnt there specific trainers for this thing?

I really feels miserable sometimes as my MD takes work like a Personal Secretary from me and not as HR manager.

I am 24 years old , and he feels that I am a kid and will work as per his rules.

Please help.............. Its really a torture sometimes.

Thanks,

Vineet

Dear Shikha,
Thanks for ur valuable comments. I think he really needs a PA but I cant suggest that directly to him as his work is not hampered in any case.
And I do hope things will improve with tym.

1) Do you think I am rightly paid according to my responsibilities? If no, then what should be my approx. salary?
Your pay is low. Approx. u r supposed get around 25-35
2) Is Training and development and induction also comes under my responsibility? Isnt there specific trainers for this thing?
Yes, T&D is ur responsibility and since there is no HR Executive Induction also ur responsibility.
As Shikha said, Wait for sometime all situation will definitely improve.

Dear John,
My appraisal is due in the month of July 09. Lets see if I get a good increment. But even if it 'll be gud I dono think it will be more than 18K. Hope for the best!!!!!!!
Can you please suggest if I can think of Job change now or should stick to the same company for more experience???
Thanks & Regards,
Vineet

Hi Vineet,
1. You havent mentioned how much experience you hold. The pay would definitely depend on experience. If you started as a fresher with that pay, then its fair enough. Its very difficult to get a break in HR and if you are career oriented then you shouldnt worry about the pay initially until you gain enough experience. Whether you should move to another co. or not depends on what hike you get, and also on how confident are you with your skills as an HR Manager. Let me know your experience and then i can tell you if 18 K is a decent pay or not.
2. Coming to you second question...Training and development and induction are also a part of the HR Manager's responsibilities, Induction is handled by the HR managaer. When it comes to T&D, it depends on the kind and content of the training program. Based on that we have different trainers. The role of HR in such cases is to coordinate the training programs, prepare training calenders, etc.

Dear Arpita,
I have 2 years of experience as of now.
I understand that coordinating trainings and preparing calendars are my responsibility. The trainings varies from Personality development, communication, team building , leadership etc.
Please guide me on this.
Thanks,

Dear Vineet
Greetings!
As of now don't go for Job Change. Presently you and your company are doing good.
Regarding T&D - Personality development, Communication, Team building are supposed to be your responsibilities.
If you are going for Technical or Language (Language Translator/Behavioral Training) training then u have to depend up on Trainers.

Dear John,
Thanks for your suggestions. I think I should wait as all of you suggested.
But can ask my employer for a salary raise as all other managers in our company are getting above 40 K and me getting such a less salary also hampers my image in the company. You donot get the same respect with that had my salary been higher.
Thanks,
Vineet

As recuitment and selection falls in your department, you need to advise your MD about the need of PA in your company setup. For the time being just get the necessary exposure and experience with this company. For record, its a priviledge to report directly to the MD.So grab the chance to your advantage. Wish you the best in your endevours
