Hi Can anyone please suggest how politely we can set guidelines for the employees on taking long breaks? Thanks in Advance Durga

What is the nature of your industry? What is your finished product? What is your designation?

If the employees are in a position to take a long break, then it could be because of not being laden with sufficient work. In spite of having a surplus time at their disposal, if the employees spend time in extended breaks, then it also shows that they lack a learning attitude.

Therefore, before telling them to curtail their breaks, I recommend you do the workload analysis. The workload analysis will help you in understanding who has gaps in their work which they are filling with the longer breaks.

If the employees are taking longer breaks, then why their managers are allowing them to do so? Is it a managerial failure?

The second method is to involve the employees and conduct a brainstorming session on how to improve their personal productivity or the department's productivity. The second brainstorming session could be on who learns on one's own. If by learning a new subject, they are able to prove that they have increased the productivity of their department, then they could be suitably rewarded.
