In our factory workers work on cutter (to cut steel sheets) and dyes. It is a mandatory for the workers that while working their 100% attentions should be there otherwise they cut or crush their fingers.
Accident happen frequently in the factory and then i have to spend big amount on their medical treatment and have to deal with police etc.
Most of the labour is daily wage earner and they are not on the roll of the factory.
Now what should i do to deal with such situation. I desire to change the machinery but no better option available at smaller scale.
How can i make myself safe in such incidence. Is there any rule or law that i can put the onus on the labour. I am always ready to take their medical expenses but dont want to be dragged in police case etc.
Kindly help me out.

What happened to your Group Mediclaim Policy for all the workmen engaged by your factory.
It will take all the loads of Medical expenses and the cost of Disability Benefits to be paid to the workmen. Only you must make sure that while appointing/engaging the workmen obtain all the Name Proof, Address Proof, Birth Certificate or any equivalent documental eveidence. Pre employment Medical check up is to be made compulsory for all workmen. The incidental charges being paid to Police and other people are to be borne by the contractor, on whose roles the injured workmen was engaged. Then only the contractors also will keep a good supervisor, who can have a constant supervision to avoid any unsafe act or unsafe condition at workplace.
Then you need not to worry about the expenditure. Because the official expenditure are borne by Insurance Company and incidental expenditure be borne by the concerned contractor.

It seems the cutting machines do not have proper safety features like preotection guard, etc. In this era of automation, such accidents do not happen if you use the machines with safety features. Money part is secondary, safe working is primary.

Dear Deve,
Why don't you take preventive measures to avoid accidents? It is the responsible to provide safe working environment to workers. Provide training on job safety treat them as human beings.
No job is so important that cannot be done safely. Don't take it otherwise.

Dear All,
If I understand your case I feel it is Shearing Machine.
You can make full-proof arrangement so that the fingers are not trapped in the machine.
This is possible by making a guard, or using a photo sensor.
Elimination of this hazard is to be focused upon.
This can be eliminated with engineering controls.
As per the Factories Act it is mandetory on the employer to provide proper guards.
If you can upload photo of the machine I can suggets you what can be done.
