The Paterson Grading System is a grading system that is used to atach weight to your job description in relation to others in the same field as you.For example a IT Specialist that simply administers a Linux server only would be rated as a C2 where a IT specialist who administers a Linux server, windows servers and Unix servers would be rated as a C4. The patterson system is based on the level of decission making. It contains grades (A to F) and Bands (1-19) There are different systems to the patterson system namely Peromnes, Hay and Castellion. I dont have any knowledge of the others. If you have a look at Annexure2 of the Employment Equity Act which you will find at the following site
