COL Rajiv
Is it mandatory to depute female escorts to Pick up / drop female Employees to their homes in company transport at night ?

Dear Col Rajiv,

Generally, the pickup and drop vehicles are the same for male and female employees. Does your company have separate vehicles? The purpose of providing the security guard with the vehicle is to protect the women employees travelling by the company's transport. The guidelines to provide security to the women employees travelling in night transport are mentioned in the Shops and Establishment Act, or the Factory Act of the respective state. As the provisions of these acts vary from one state to another, please check the provisions of the applicable act of your state.

Dear Col Rajiv,
As per the rules the female employees should be escorted with female guards is advisable.
We were practicing of escorting by female guards for dropping and pickup. The vehicles used for dropping are fixed with trackers for monitoring remotely.
In my suggestion, the appoint of female operators for the vehicles used for pickup and drop is a better option.

Dear Prabhat Ranjan Mohanty,

Your company provides female security guards in the night transport that ferries female employees. However, what are the selection criteria for female security guards? Security guards, whether male or female, have to protect themselves and protect the female employees while escorting the night transport.

Providing personal security is no easy task. The key elements of providing personal security are preparedness, vigilance, deterrence, and defence. Getting a security guard who fulfils all these elements is not easy.

For my professional requirements, I visit the client's offices. My first interaction is always with the security guards. From their body language or facial expressions, one can make out that the security guards are untrained.

Against this backdrop, whether the female security guards (escorting the night transport) mitigate the risk, or aggravate it is a moot point!

Thanks,

Mr Divakar,
Our selection criteria we employ trained people from police, para military and tough sports persons with martial art and undergoes training from time to time. We do out sources the services to different service providers in the market.
The women candidates are at par or even better service providers than male. The subject of comparision is unethical. The world is changing fast with more variation in professional fields. Why then females are in police, three forces of military, Air force., Navy, CISF, BSF and other services too?

Dear Prabhat Ranjan Mohanty,

If your company employs former military or para-military personnel as security guards, then it is appreciable. Not all the companies do the same.

In my second post of this thread, I limited my point to the lack of training of the security guards. I did not compare female guards with male guards or question employment of the women in the military or the para-military organisation. I raised my concern over the allotment of escort duties to the guards whose competence is questionable. I have given parameters to decide the competence of the security guards in the said post.

My second post was based on the observations made during my visits to business establishments in general, and MNCs in particular. In this age of computers and advanced software, many security offices are filled with a heap of registers. In the same office, the security supervisor doing clerical work rather than the core work of security is not an uncommon sight!

Mr Dinesh Divakar,
The issues are lying with the mindset of the organization.
In one occasion we wanted to out source the security to CISF but for certain operating issues we took the services of the State Police because the life of employees and theft of imported materials were involved. The cost is more than the ordinary guards but result was fantastic.

Security Services, for escorting employees from home to their work place and back.
Various agencies and their clients use various models of Security arrangement.
1.Employing female security guards with vehicles carrying female employees with backend tracking mechanism. With GPS and realtime reporting and communication all the way during the vehicle route.
2)Arrangement of Security escorts male or female along with dedicate male employees along with female employees,in which case all the female emplyees are dropped first and picked up last during pickup drop route.
3)All vehicles drivers, vehicle providers are strictly verified and monitored with best of tech devices and engaged in reporting systems through onboard guards and escorts with immediate actions during route movements.
Whole responsibility lies with transport management and client management.
Whole focus is to ensure 100%safety of female employees and the security arrangement has to encompass real time reporting, location mapping and female employee, reporting safe at any instant during her move.
