Yes more details required. Whether he has been absenting and still not reported or he took long leave without information but reported for duty and you want to know whether his PL/Cl can be adjusted. It is not possible to reply without mspecific and adequate details.

Dear Shri Venkatesh,
Unauthourized absence (an Employee absenting from his/her duty without prior permission and or information) amounts to act of misconduct for which he/she is liable to Disciplinary Action. If that is the case please proceed with Disciplinary Action as stipulated in the Standing Orders or the Service Rules as applicable to your Establishment. As far as Leave ( accumulated in the present case as stated by you) is concerned let the Managers be aware that any Leave of Absence is admissible only when the Employee concerned applies for it as per laid down procedure and when it is clearly sanctioned.

If he is absenting for long without authority, issue a letter asking him to join his duties. If he does not, then you have to issue charge sheet, conduct enquiry and give punishment.
But the procedure has to be followed carefully.

Hi Venkatesh, 3.5.16.
The following points are contradictory in ur query:
1. Mr.X has taken long leave means; it is sanctioned by some authority.
2. Not informed HR or Reporting Manager; means; he is absenting; deserving disciplinary action after issuing Show Cause Notice, Charge Sheet, Conducting Enquiry as per certified Standing Orders.
3. If he is working for about 2 yrs.only; will there be huge PL or CL in his credit?? Pl. check. Even if some leave balance exists; when he is absenting continuously without infn., what is ur plan.
As mentioned by other Senior members,
Pl. reveal all details like his post, Leave granted or not, period of absence etc., so that members may offer suggestion.

Absenteeism is bane of Industry. It is misconstrued by many that if Leave days are available, employee can enjoy LEAVE of Absence. Leave is always granted. To simply compare you may have enough money in your account in the Bank but you need to get approval before withdrawal. In the instant case shoot a show cause notice and seek his explanation. Even if he is sick,in bed, he is duty bound to inform the employer, unless he is unconscious or affected by heart attack. Inaction by the management is also a fault. If you are in manufacturing and have a CERTIFIED STANDING ORDERS please refer MISCONDUCT. On obtaining a reply proceed with an enquiry. He might be working for another company??
