Sriguru
Hi all
I am working in an organisation where some of (All) my senior staffs are smoking inside the office. Office is fully airconditioned and no ventilations for smokes to go out.
Since I am subordinate to my seniors, how can I go and tell them directly pls stop smoking inside the office.Basically i am working is Tobacco based company. But I am in another division which is not in any way have link with tobacco.
My problem is I am getting irritation while others smoke in front of me within the office premises and even the toilet rooms are not in exception.
Is there any legal move to solve this problem or can anyone tell me how to deal my superiors psychologically.
Regards
Sriguru

Dear Mr. Sriguru, According to my knowledge, i dont think there is any law which prohibits an employee to smoke inside the office.(as long as its a factory, yes, there is a law).Prohibition of Smoking in a Office depends on the Company's rules & Regulations.....You can take out a circular, that anyone found smoking inside the office premises, will be heavily fined.(also charge fine frm them). Then slowly and gradually they will stop smoking....There is a saying "Slow and Steady wins the Race". so changes wont happen immediately...you will have to wait for them to change...the changes will happen slowly and gradually.....RegardsAnkit09869851356

Hi Sriguru, I think we have to do Gandhi Giri, Simply with the help of some members in HR Put "No Smoking" templates in smoking areas.Add some slogans also. Hope it will work.

Hello,
There is a act passed by the Health Minister, which prohibits and fines the employees for smoking in the company.
The said fine starts at Rs.1000/-
About mind games, what you can do is , you can post a huge pictures, which states that passive smoking kills, by doing so you send them a clear message about your aversion towards smoking and smokers.
But see to it that picture you choose, should be either funny, comical or sarcastically but the message across the same should be strong & straight, so you can be funny and at the same time hit the bulls eye without roughing up people in wrong way
Thank You

Dear Siriguru
Very interesting. I saw your posts and you got replies thinking that you are the boss!!
1. Start with your equals. If any one smokes very close to you, tell them, sorry please smoke outside. Cough. cough. cough
2. With bosses, you can not be blunt. but you can request them. But there is a danger You are working in Tobacco based firm They may not like your approach
3. L<ook for a change That is the best solution I can think of

Hi Sriguru,
If you say you are a junior staff, then firstly try to approach your Reporting Manager and address the issue to him/her so that he can try & sort out at his level.
Secondly, try to figure out a place that can be marked as smoking area and can be designated as smoking zone, may be somewhere in cafeteria or sleeves of the building.
Any which ways you have all the right to stand up against this if you are facing health concerns, you start and 100% i can tell you that there will be people there to support your initiative on this.
