hi arooj
its an interesting point u have raised....what i think is the misconception or perception what ever u call is still in the minds of some people who dont agree this point.
let me tell u that in earliear days may be since from early man age ther is a male domination till 90's but from mid 90's there is shift in the stand and world started to recgnise the women's leadership and the examples u know it. but there is still male domination in such companies where they neither encourage females to take initiative nor do they recognise their efferts.
there is also other reasons such as family constraints to some females that stops their career growing.
and also the main perception of not handling properly the leadership role. this i dont agree. the main reason behind it is if a female take the lead all the male members(some) have guity feeling. this should be removed
but even in some organisation there is no encouagement of female lead.

Hi all,
I would like to throw light on Mrs.Sudha Murthy. 40 years back she went to TATA group for an interview and was turned down an offer just because of the gender.
She argued with the late JRD.Tata and got a job. I saw this in a TV interview of her. Later on she resigned her position.
What will you say for this....?? Correct me if I am wrong.
Regards,

now at present i dont have exact figure. but one of the example i can give is congress party political leader and "WOMEN OF THE YEAR 2007" is sonia gandhi. pakisthan's PPPleader late Mrs. butto, sri lankan president kumari bhandari nayakai, mynammar's great stalwart sukooyi and germany president are some of them.

It is not that Women are not career oriented or do not want to get to the top. There are many women who are career oriented and definately have career as their top priority.
But lets stop and take stock of the situation. How many companies in India are willing to make way for a woman to be at the top? How many top companies in India have a woman heading their organisation. Hardly any if my memory serves me right unless its a family business like thermax, firodia group etc where the hot seat is passed on to the next in line family member.
If we had opportunities, then indra nooyi would not have gone out of India to be where she is today. Also Kiran Bedi too has resigned not because she is not career oriented, but simply because she chose to stand by her principles and not buckle under the male centered political pressure.
Sad to say, but even today as much as we have developed as a country and are on our way of being a super power not in the far future, we still treat our women as second class citizens and look down upon women as decorative pieces. Why is it hard to accept that a woman can also have brains with her beauty that she too is an intelligent creation of God?

Women heading a political movement should not be compared here. This is becasue they are merely the heirs to their parental lineage in politics. The story of Indira gandhi (Nehru), Benazir(Zulfikar Bhutto), Seikh hasina (Mujibur rehman), Chandrika or Sirimavo with Bandaranake, etc.
Just we have to see how many of the common women have rose to that position inspite of the hard obstacles?
This are changing now and we have to accept.
