I m doing my MBA from IES, Bandra college. Doing my summer project in ONGC on the implementation of IT in the HR department.i almost completed my project. but at the end, I find HR is not what I want to so as everywhere same PA, payroll, benefits n all HR have to do. which is almost the same everywhere.
so I'm planning to take dual specialization in (Major)marketing and (minor)HR as I cant do (Major)HR n (minor), marketing.:?:
but I do so- in the market which area I should go to, where both HR and market skills are required? if I take dual I will get a temporary solution not long-lasting.
so can u help m out with what I should do. Which area will b suitable for me? :( Everyone said u decide where u feet? but I don't know in n out of both in detail as i m fresher. i want someone's guidance, so it will help m to take a decision.

Hello friend,
If you have got clarity on what HR function is all about and if it is not of your interest then it is better to opt for Marketing. It may be worthwhile to know what marketing function is all about and then take the final decision.
Always try to select a career which is of your interest. In case you know someone who does psychometric analysis he will be able to advice even better based on your report.

Let us look in HR - all the HR professionals does the same : Recruitment, Payroll, Retention, Training & Development. Accepted, but why is that there is so much of variation in payslips of different organiations ?
Every time there is a change in Tax structure, HR and Finance teams come up with new things to save tax for the employees. Today HCM is the biggest challenge for any organisation from any domain.
And about Marketing, even they does the same routine work - Porduct launches, Promotions etc. The difference is in how you launch the prodcut.
So from my exprience I can say that all the jobs are monotomous, the difference lies in your approach and execution.
So first find out your interests and based on that take a call.
Put in your best efforts in the work given to you and you shall never face boredom.
Remember even all the film makers does the same job of making films......
Hope this would help you in making the right decision.

Hi I am working as an Officer - H.R. department.I must say that Marketing is a job with glamor & at innitial months or years, you will work almost outside clients or customers of the organization, follower, running to acheive targets, and no time limit to reach back home and social life too wont enjoy. So these are some of the real components you need to understand. While HR....Time is fixed that is too day time such as 9hrs.; 9.a.m. to 5.45p.m.Initial couple of years you will spend to do and understand, and how to impliment,etc. what you have studied in MBA-HR HR has not only have Responsibilities but also have an Authority in the organization to controll, to fix and to have innovation for organization.Have a Privilege too.HR plays significant role in and outside of an organization.HR is decision maker, problemm solver,leader....HR keeps organization culture smooth and motivated staff also representative of Top-Management,Middle Management and Subordinates.Now its you, can get more info. than I have mentioned here and than decide what to choose.Bytheway, Female also does best job as HR.Good Luck!!

Its all depends on your planning for future...........I you are looking for a quick settlement with good pay initially prefer marketing as your career.If you have good Marketing skills within you like (convincing skills,Negotiating skills etc).
If you are looking for commanding position and interested in dealing with people (Even this will be done in Marketing also) and interested in dealing different challenging people related tasks in HR better go for that.But what i feel is it may take some time to have a correct settlement in HR department..............

even i find there is slow growth HR but in markt growth is fast compare too HR.
now i have to decide where i should go still i have 2 weeks in my hand to decide.

As you have clearly said in marketing you always have more opportunities, then if you have good convincing skills, love travelling and able to withstand targets then you can always choose marketing as your major, if you are good at taking responsibility, good at communication, analysing people then you can choose HR. WHATEVER SPECIALIZATION YOU TAKE WHAT MATTERS IS HOW YOU PERFORM IN THE INTERVIEW, be versatile because HR job also needs marketing skills and vice versa. WHATEVER MAY BE THE MAJOR OR MINOR TRY TO COLLECT AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE AND FIND OUT WHICH INTERESTS YOU THE MOST AND WHY? BUILD ON YOUR PASSION. WHEN YOU HAVE PLACEMENT IF YOU ARE GOING FOR A HR JOB U CAN ALWAYS TELL THEM THAT UR SPECIALITION IS HR AND VICE VERSA. Dont worry about the specialization, just think for a while and according to your interest choose your specialization. i have 5 months experience in Market research firm. but initial period i have to do a field work so my family didnt suport m to do my career in marketing so i have to choose HR as career. so i want to do my summer project in HR to know how HR function n i m suitable to HR or not.
i feel i m kind of person who always want to do new new things i get stuck with one thing only then i get boar. n i saw in HR w have to work according rules or whetaver is going on from the past. we dont have to use our own ideas n all.
so i think i have to chooce training n development area. as every tim new new things have to discover, but it is difficult to get a job in this area b'cos i m fresher.
lets hope for the best.
