Hi,There will be no notification in this regard, since this is specified in the "Maternity Benefit Act, 1961" itself. Its Mandatory for all the employers to extend the benefit to all women employees who has worked more than 160days in a year.Pls refer Sec.5, of the above act for more details.Rgds,Suresh RamalingamManager - Compliance

Thanks, that means we can extend our maternity leave policy from three months to six months on the basis of maternity leave act 1961.
I have seen several companies giving six months maternity leave. How have they started? Don't they have any notification? Are they giving on the basis of maternity act 1961?

I have read sec. 5 of maternity benefict act 1961 but I didn't find anywhere mentioned that we can extend the leave to six months. Could you send me a link where I can see this..

Dear Suresh, Plz go through the M B Act, the eligibility for maternity benefit is 80 days working. Previously it was 160 days.
