Hi,
I am working in a start-up web development company and I need to come up with some activities or programs to improve the communication skills of employees. The activities should be such that they should not take much time and should be an ongoing and consistent program. The program or activities should be interesting enough to get the cooperation and attention of the IT guys in my company.
Please, can anyone help me... I searched on Google but didn't find anything useful!!!

Hey,
I conducted an email etiquette session for my team in a corporate setting. I provided sample situations to the audience beforehand and asked them to send their responses to me before the session. During the session, there was a thorough discussion involving everyone where we analyzed each response for its pros and cons. The outcome was finding a common ground for most situations.
One could view this approach as an option. Additionally, I am interested in learning more specifics about your communication training. Does it cover verbal communication, email etiquette, body language, or all of the above?

There are many elements that make up communication. Writing, listening and speaking is communication however perceptions and experiences are a part of the communications process. Perceptions result from life experiences. How you react to a situation depends on your perception of the meaning. Good communication skills include an awareness of how the receiver might be interpreting your message. Other communication skills importantly also include the following.
§Speaking correctly
§Being a good listener during a conversation
§Asking questions for clarification
§Giving feedback
§Using tact in a non-argumentative manner
§Body language
§Posture
§Good eye contact
§ Respecting personal space
§ Written skills
§Awareness of cultural differences
§Offering praise and appreciations
§Humor
Accordingly first you identify which skills are lacked and which need focused interventions. This can be done by understanding the needs from the line or HOD. Post this analysis you may have sessions and interventions on the above elements. Simulations, exercises and role plays can do you good.

Anything formal might not catch a lot of attention or interest for a long time. You need to be creative and also ensure that there is a pattern in such activities. Being a start-up, you could use icebreaker sessions and focus on any one aspect of communication each day of the week. This is the method I follow in my office for all internal motivation and overcoming hurdles in communication, and based on the response I receive, I believe it is quite successful. Try it before you reject it...

Correct Usage of Grammar
Proper E-mail Etiquette
Presentation
Forms of Interacting with Clients
These are a few areas in which corporates need to impart training. To make it more interesting, consider having one or half-hour session per day. Avoid cumbersome exercises on grammar and instead, use techniques like observation and execution of language, real-life scenarios, and role play.

Dear,
To improve communication at the workplace, the focus tends to be on the weak points of current communication at work. Please analyze what's actually missing - relationships among members, managers, or groups, or whether people have weak communication aptitude.
Some of the small activities that you can plan, keeping in view the time constraints, are:
1. Hold regular HRD meetings with groups: Divide the total strength into groups at the workplace. Organize weekly meetings with these groups, record their queries/suggestions/issues, and solve them in the most communicable manner. Also, hold discussion meetings with managers and encourage them to be effective with their teams. They can also assist in improving communication.
2. Weekly/bi-weekly/monthly team meetings: Make these meetings more structured. Motivate managers to hold both formal and informal meetings with their team members and share the main highlights with HR if required.
3. Send daily inspirational emails to employees and ask them to share their views about them.
4. Start a monthly online magazine and ask people to share their articles as well.
5. Weekly HR events related to communication:
a. Online quiz (with English reasoning questions)
b. Online/offline paragraph writing on current topics, general topics
c. Write a passage on any good caricature.
d. Debate/Extempore/Quiz competition
Motivate your people to participate in such HR activities by rewarding the winners with small gifts or sincere appreciation.
There are many ways in which HR can engage employees. The more you engage, the more communication will enhance. But ensure to enhance trust as well, which builds better communication at the workplace.
Best Regards,
Arti

Hello,
You should first analyze the roots where you want to start from. I am satisfied with ING10211 regarding his advice; it really motivates the employees. In our Ex-Comm classes with the MBA students, it worked a lot. At the end of the two semesters, we had extremely good speakers.

Have you ever heard of Toastmasters? Just read about this online. It's an excellent platform to improve communication skills for employees. It worked wonders in my company, and I believe it should help you too.

I would suggest going for Toastmasters. Employees may join any Toastmaster Chapter in your city, or it is best to start a Toastmaster club in your own company. You may like to visit Toastmasters International - Home for more details. Please feel free to contact me if you need more details or help.
