Hello Everyone,

I am Shikha from Delhi and pursuing my final year in HR. Currently, I am working in the Power Sector Unit in Noida as a Secretary to the CEO of the Company. I have over 5 years of experience in the same role. :)

Now, I want to transition into the HR field as a Trainee/Executive. Could you please assist me in searching for HR Trainee/Executive positions? I also have some experience in recruitment.

I am also seeking opinions on whether my decision to switch career paths from Secretary to HR is the right one.

Hope you all can help me out in this matter.

With regards,

Hi Shika,

It's nice to know that you are working as well as pursuing your education.

There is nothing wrong in you considering a change from Secretary to HR. But it all matters in how you are presenting yourself to an employer.

Because - it's just that you may not get the best offer.

So, when you are being interviewed - you need to highlight that you gained knowledge of the organizational working pattern, the exact needs of the organization. You also need to say that as a Secretary to the CEO, your work was not defined only to one area. You also had the opportunity to interact with employees, take part in recruitment, and other related areas.

You need to have a one-to-one discussion with a person in the HR department - maybe at an executive level. Try and find out what exactly their role comprises and have a glance at the reports they submit. This should help you in understanding how to answer the interview questions and how to gather information relevant to the position in HR you are applying for.

Thanks,

Asha
