Hi,

I am working on a project on organizational climate and am using the organizational climate survey developed by Rensis Likert, which uses a 4-point scale. If anyone has the manual for scoring and interpreting this scale, please send it to me. It's very urgent.

Hi Garnet,

Which one are you using, SOO 2000? If you send the data collected on an Excel sheet, I may be able to help you. I had used this in early 2000.

Also, please see my posting at https://www.citehr.com/107779-organi...l-climate.html

Hi Sir,

Thank you for replying. I am yet to start the data collection. I just received a copy of the questionnaire. If I can obtain the manual for scoring and interpretation, I will proceed with the data collection. So if you have the information regarding scoring and interpretation, please do send it to me. The OC scale that I'm using was developed by Rensis Likert in the year 1967. The questionnaire consists of 18 items and 4 options. It also includes 4 management styles. If this was the one you used, please do help me.

Thanking you,
Garnet

Hi,

I gave that book away and I can't remember the questionnaire. If you have a soft copy, please send it to me, and I will try to guide you. If it is for an MBA project, after collecting data, conduct a factor analysis using SPSS to identify categories.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay. I have pasted a copy of the questionnaire and the details below.

Organizational Climate Questionnaire

Instructions:

Read the following statements carefully. Each item has 5 responses: SD – Strongly Disagree, D – Disagree, N – Neutral, A – Agree, and SA – Strongly Agree. After reading each item, put a tick mark against the response that you feel is most appropriate according to you in relation to your organization. Avoid responding neutral as much as possible.

SD D N A SA

1. I am willing to put in a great deal of effort beyond that normally expected in order to help this organization be successful.
2. I talk up this organization to my friends as a great organization to work for.
3. I feel very little loyalty to this organization.
4. I would accept almost any type of job assignment in order to keep working for this organization.
5. I find that my values and the organization's values are very similar.
6. I am proud to tell others that I am part of this organization.
7. I could just as well be working for a different organization as long as the type of work was similar.
8. This organization really inspires the very best in me in the way of job performance.
9. It would take very little change in my present circumstances to cause me to leave this organization.
10. I am extremely glad that I chose this organization to work for over others I was considering at the time I joined.
11. There's not too much to be gained by sticking with this organization indefinitely.
12. Often, I find it difficult to agree with this organization's policies on important matters relating to its employees.
13. I really care about the fate of this organization.
14. For me, this is the best of all possible organizations for which to work.
15. Deciding to work for this organization was a definite mistake on my part.

Description of the tool:

Organizational Climate Questionnaire:

The organizational climate questionnaire used for the study was developed by Likert (1967). The questionnaire contains 18 items and measures the 6 dimensions of organizational climate:

1. Leadership (items 1, 2, 3)
2. Motivation (items 4, 5, 6)
3. Communication (7, 8, 9, 10)
4. Goal Setting (11, 12, 13)
5. Decision making (14, 15)
6. Controls (16, 17, 18)

The responses indicate the degree to which the organization tends towards a participative and human-oriented climate as compared to an autocratic and highly structured climate.

The four management systems are as follows:

• Explorative and authoritative
• Benevolent
• Consultative
• Participative

Scoring:

The items are scored by adding the responses given by the individuals in the response column. The total score for each dimension is calculated. The total organizational climate score is the sum of the scores of all the dimensions. A high score indicates that the employees perceive the organization more favorably.

Standardization:

The questionnaire has been standardized for the Indian population to suit our culture by Patel (1978).

Reliability:

The test-retest reliability coefficient for the different dimensions of organizational climate are as follows:

Leadership: 0.48
Motivation: 0.51
Communication: 0.60
Decision making: 0.95
Goal setting: 0.53
Controls: 0.48
