Hi All,

One of my friends applied for a PAN card through an agency in Bangalore long back, and still now, he hasn't received the card. When checked online, it showed the acknowledgement number, but when he called the Mumbai office, they said they didn't receive his application. Now, he is confused about whether to reapply. Is it possible to reapply when he hasn't received the card? Could you please help me by explaining the procedure for reapplying? When he tried calling the agency, nobody answered the call. I would appreciate your prompt response.

Swati

Dear friend,

Never reapply for the PAN card unless you have written confirmation from the PAN authority stating that there is no pending application with them. Otherwise, you may face problems in the future. You can also reconfirm the status online at www.incometaxindia.gov.in.

Dear friend,

You do not need to reapply for a PAN card as you already have an acknowledgment number with you. Please visit the website www.tin.nsdl.com and search for your acknowledgment number. If you have already searched for your online PAN number, then send an email to your regional income tax department with all the necessary references.

Hi,

He can certainly reapply, but ask him to attach a letter along with the reapplication stating that this is being done as he hasn't received his PAN card yet. Ask your friend's company to take care of it as it would be easier for them to handle it rather than your friend. Also, since your friend has already seen the acknowledgment, he should refer to that number in the letter as well.

Thanks & Regards, AJ
