How many leaves are mandatory in a private limited company for festivals?
From India, New Delhi
Dear Member,
First see under which of the Act you are covered i.e Factories Act or State S&E Act. Now if you are covered under the state S&E Act then you are to grant Festival Holidays in accordance with applicable S & E Act & if you are covered under Factories Act, 1948 then you are to grant Festival Holidays in accordance with applicable State Industrial Establishment ( National & Festival Holidays and Casual & sick leaves ) Act.

Hi Akanksha,

It seems you’ve mixed two different concepts in your query: leaves and festival holidays. Let me clarify:

Leaves are paid time off that employees can avail of as per their discretion, based on the company's leave policy.

Holidays, particularly festival holidays, are specific days off declared by the employer in observance of festivals or national significance.

Assuming you are referring to Festival Holidays and are based in Haryana, these are governed by the Punjab Industrial Establishment (National and Festival Holidays and Casual and Sick Leave) Act, 1965. As per this Act:

Employers must grant three national holidays, specifically:

- 26th January (Republic Day)
- 15th August (Independence Day)
- 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti).

Additionally, employers must declare five festival holidays from the list provided in the Schedule appended to the Act. Employers can select these five festivals based on the Schedule and local relevance.

I hope this clears up the distinction and provides the information you need
