Hi, I have almost 8 years of experience. In my last organization, I worked for four years and am currently unemployed. I have been continuously updating my resume with no success. Is it advisable to falsify my experience to indicate that I am still employed at my previous organization? I am considering manipulating my relieving letter accordingly.

Dear Suman,

You can fake on a CV and maybe even on letters, but will not the background verification reveal everything? For this silly mistake, you may lose a very good company and may even get blacklisted. Don't ever fake any resumes or experience.

I had already given my feedback on a similar query raised by one anonymous colleague in this forum.

My dear friend, there is no shortcut for climbing the career ladder. You have to climb step by step. Similarly, a job-aspiring candidate should not only be smart (or even oversmart?) but also diligent, sincere, honest, and a person of integrity. These are some basic traits that every employer is looking for in their employees.

Creating any fake document will ultimately lead to spoiling your career. Give honest information in your CV. If you are currently jobless, please mention that without any hesitation.

Good luck! Thank you, R K Nair

Also, read this thread currently on a similar subject: https://www.citehr.com/499458-person...-workbook.html

Still, I am curious as to WHY the OP concludes being "jobless" is the reason he is not being successful in his search presently. What are the views of people here - if two persons are equally suited and interested in a job, one unemployed presently and the other employed, what would be the preference of decision-makers in your organization? And why?

Views?

I strongly agree with Mr. P.K. Nair. The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. Some people think that the truth can be hidden with a little cover-up like manipulating documents. My sincere advice is don't spoil your career with these silly things.

I will agree with all the seniors, but this is also a reality that even if a person has good experience, but due to some circumstances, he/she has to take a gap for 1-2 years. No one considers them, let alone call for an interview. These things make candidates forge their CV.

I will request others to weigh in on what Priyajiya66 says. Do you recall instances where your organization has taken on board someone unemployed at the time? What factors went into that decision?

We had a case about 6 years ago when we proposed a Safety Engineer, who was unemployed at the time, to an Auto major since we felt he was a good fit. He was hired at a salary higher than what he had previously earned, as per the company's structure.

That is the only case I recall. Although we have had several interviews, we have no hesitation in proposing unemployed people if other factors indicate a good fit.

Hi, that's the last thing one should ever do. Although I have come across many cases of faking payslips for a hefty salary hike during transitions and even got away with it for whatever reasons. I have also seen in our very own HR fraternity cases of faking resumes to cover up gaps, easily managed due to the old boys' (buddies') circuit.

However, I will never recommend such actions. Be honest and straightforward. Fight for your dignity and honor. Ensure you have proper justification; there is no need to be ashamed. Put in effort. I request someone from the group to assist Suman with an opening if possible.

All the best.

Warm Regards, Arvind.

Hello Sumanbaner,

While concurring with all the members to desist from faking your resume, suggest please mention a few more details to enable the members to give realistic and practical solutions to your situation ('Don't Fake' covers only what NOT to do to handle your problem, while you are looking for what TO DO, I guess).

1] What's the career gap you are talking about - better still would be to clearly give the chronology of your career.
2] What's your gender - let that NOT give rise to ANY lopsided ideas now. Quite often the solutions available to one gender may not be available to the other.
3] What's the reason(s) for the gap? Please be as clear as possible - UNLESS you are frank, everyone in the Forum would begin to make their OWN set of assumptions, and the solutions would follow THAT path; and in the end, you won't have a solution that YOU can work on.
4] What's your educational background and sector/domain?

Guess these inputs should be able to lead towards a more practical solution from the members.

All the Best.

Regards,
TS

Nowadays, nobody is checking whether you are working or have worked. They will evaluate your performance in the current job. If the work is satisfactory, they will continue your employment; otherwise, they will terminate your service during the probation period. The probation period serves this purpose only.

Hi, I am associated with an HR Services company that also conducts background verifications. Background verifications are done very thoroughly, and some established companies go to great lengths to ensure they are making the right hiring decisions.

So, never, ever fake anything in your CV. You might get lucky once or twice, but not every time. Once the truth comes out, you could ruin your entire career. If the industry in which you work is small, the word spreads fast.

Many companies are okay with candidates who have taken a sabbatical in their careers, whether for family, illness, entrepreneurial pursuits, or any other reason, but no one wants liars. So please don't do anything that could jeopardize your entire career.

I suggest you spin your resume to remove the assignments that shows you’re less committed to your present career goals rather than adding fake experience. Regards, Abhishek HR Manager

Hi all,

My problem is that I started my career with a BPO, and after working there, my experience has become worthless. I have been trying to shift to a day job, but to no avail. The situation has become so bad that I had to leave my job to prioritize my family because I was disconnected from them during my night shift days.

Now, I am unemployed, despite having very good analytical and communication skills. I excel in reporting and presentations, and I also have experience in software testing from my last organization. The only thing I lack is a BE Degree. It has been over a year, and I am not getting hired. To be honest, I am not getting any opportunities.

What does it mean by Pre and Post Background Verification in TCS? Does it mean a verification where they say "Green" at present time but can say "Red" in the future?

My first company is closed; I don't know how they will verify now. They may have already completed the verification, as I haven't received any queries from them recently. Is it possible that they will ask for verification after I join TCS, potentially putting me at risk by questioning the availability of documents such as Form 16, account statements, etc.? I only have an experience and relieving letter from that company, which was very small with only 10-15 employees and not even a private limited company. I worked there around 8 years ago, and since then, I have worked in two big MNCs.
