Hi seniors,
Regarding the suspended employee, I have come across several responses concerning subsistence allowance, bonus, leave, etc. However, my query pertains to his annual increment. Is he entitled to an annual increment? If so, what percentage should it be? For instance, if the increment for the year amounts to Rs. 1200, how should we determine the increment for the suspended employee? Please reply.
Warm regards,

Dear Brindha,
He is eligible for an increment at the same percentage you give to others if increments are not based on performance. I assume you are giving increments as a custom to all. Withholding an increment is itself a punishment.
Thank you.

It all depends on the language of the suspension clause under your disciplinary rules. Please also clarify whether you are following standing orders or you have your own disciplinary rules.

Dear Brindha,
Yours is a very good question, and rarely asked. You have received good answers too. It has been rightly commented: "Withholding increment is itself a punishment." Saiconsult has correctly observed, "It all depends upon the language of the suspension clause under your disciplinary rules." Please furnish more information as our members have desired; to get a more elaborate response on your query.
At this point of time, I can only add the following: If the Punishment Order says, "reduction in grade, or time-scale..." with cumulative effect; then it means that the punished employee will not get any increment and the increment due during the punishment period shall be lost forever. If it is "without cumulative effect," then he will get the increment after the punishment period is over; as well as any other benefits associated.
Do feel free to seek further clarification and also come out with more information, as asked for.
Warm regards.
