Hi All,

I think almost everyone has had a bad boss at one time or another. However, I would like to know your feedback on how you handle a situation with a bad boss. What actions would you likely take?

- Complain to the management?
- Quit the job and look for a new one?

Appreciate your genuine feedback.

Thanks

Quitting the job and looking for a new one does not guarantee that you will not find another bad boss. I think the most important part is how bad it is. If the boss has a bad temper issue, then it's difficult to cope and adjust. But if there is something for you to do your job better (which I am sure everybody has a scope to learn), then work on your issues first. If you have done enough on your part, then put your concerns across to the management and see if something improves. If the whole job situation is adding stress to your life even after taking all the steps, then move on and find another job. This time, be more careful about the person you will be reporting to.

Just a piece of thought: A bad person to you can be the best person for someone else. I hope it helps in some way. Thanks for reading.

Boss can be bad.Do not take it personally. Concentrate on your job and be confident about your job and your capabilities. Keep in mind "BOSS IS ALWAYS RIGHT" everything will be easy.

How can one come to the conclusion that the boss is bad? The boss has the mandate from the company to meet certain targets. If the boss imposes such targets on the subordinates, he/she cannot be termed as bad. Rarely, some bosses behave eccentrically regarding personal freedom or privileges. These issues can be discussed or resolved with the help of HR.

Hi Pon,

Perhaps one can come to the conclusion that their boss exhibits the following behaviors:
- Bullying
- Incompetence
- Fails to communicate, and may not even have clear expectations, timelines, or goals
- Harassment and Discrimination
- Takes credit for the successes and positive accomplishments of employees
- Does not respect legal rights
- Speaks loudly, rudely, and one-sidedly to staff
- Invades privacy

This topic would obviously assist those dealing with difficult bosses.

Hi Nawas,

I want to share my experience. I was working for a wonderful company, but it had a reputation for the highest HR attrition due to the VP-HR. I used to have nightmares. She used to insult us in front of others, shout wherever she was standing, and find fault with almost all the work we did. I saw at least a dozen HR executives joining and leaving within 9 months. One day, I even stopped going; I had gone into depression. Today, I feel I shouldn't have taken it personally because the company realized it sooner or later and moved her to a different profile. It was a difficult decision as she was one of the pillars of the company. But if I had just stayed a few more months, I would have achieved a few things earlier. It's not that I am not doing well now, but I could have had better exposure at a very early stage of my career.

You must always leave your office within its premises, at least the demotivating thoughts, and consult a senior member from the company before quitting. That should be the last option.

The very first thing I wanna know from you ..
On what basis you call a BOSS bad, I mean what you say about BAD BOSS.
Until you share yourself on your query/ question first, I don’t think your query is complete
Second, we all might have some bad experience or good with the Boss but must not forget that this also depends on the understanding on this matter and the dealing/work with seniors. Sometime we found our boss with something that bother us or hurt us but never try to get the actual reason of it or would say wont be able to get the real purpose of them to treat us in the way that make us feel bad.
There are many people who would say that they have had a bad experience with their BOSS but no one gonna say that he/she has failed to understand the purpose/reason behind the dealing they have had with BOSS. They never claims that they failed to know this actually.
I wont say much because I wanna know your reasons/purpose behind your query first
