Hello Seniors,

I have just joined as an Executive-HR in a manufacturing company, and my MD told me to prepare a Dress Code policy. We will be providing different dress codes for Staff, Workers, Labourers, and Contract Labourers. Can anybody help me out?

Before drafting a dress code, first check with your management whether they intend to provide any subsidy. Generally, if a dress code is required for workers, they may ask for uniforms from the management. The dress code should be decided upon taking into consideration the safety and security needs of the company. Those working near running machinery should not wear loose-fitting or tight clothes. Half-sleeve formal shirts, tucked pants, and closed-toe shoes are preferable. For higher-level executives, variations in color and full-sleeve shirts can be considered. For women, churidars or sarees are preferable.

All the best.

I fully agree with Mr. M. Venkatraghavan. Dress code policy is the best factor for any organization to maintain decency and decorum. As the HR executive, I suggest considering, once again, the status of various employees in your company and identifying different dress codes for different categories of employees, taking into account the advice provided by the experts.

Hi,

The dress code policy is one of the most challenging factors as it involves status and reputation. It is essential to have clear-cut details from management, senior people in the office, and workmen. Get their agreement to the proposal, then check for safety issues and get it officially recognized.

Changing the uniform in our company has been a major challenge - one group likes something while others do not, some want to go the modern route with jeans and a shirt, and others do not. Color is another issue. Even if everything else is resolved, the material will still be an issue.

I would encourage you to engage in brainstorming and acceptance pooling for all aspects of uniform implementation.

Best of luck.
