Dear All,

My boss has given me a task to draft a policy for birthdays. Could anybody please provide me with a copy of the existing policy from their organization for the aforementioned subject so that I can get some idea?

I am looking forward to your prompt reply.

Hi Rajesh,

I can't disclose my company's birthday celebration system here. But I would like to share another wonderful program (of another company). The company has acquired GMP/ISO and is expecting Six Sigma soon.

1. MD/Department Head/Plant Head/Manager will give a birthday gift to the employee in a brief personal meeting. For example, MD will give away the gift to the Department Head for his birthday, Marketing Director will give a gift to the Marketing Head, etc.

2. HR will coordinate the birthday meeting, gift purchase, mailing, etc.

3. HR will configure the mail alerts in HRIS in such a way that mail alerts should go to MD/Department Head/Plant Head/Manager and the employee before 2 days from the birthday.

4. HR will post the Birthday announcement poster in the concerned employee's department/shop floor notice board.

5. An employee can avail of half-day paid leave on their birthday (if required).

Feel free to take the best out of this and share your experience here when you implement a birthday celebration program in your company.

Do you celebrate their birthday with some gifts, as we also have a similar program? The announcement is not done through a notice board but through our internal voice speakers during the lunch break, followed by a 5-minute celebration or wishing program. The CEO or our VP hands over a goody bag of chocolates.

We used to wish birthdays with bouquets, but noticed that most of the male recipients would leave them on their desk. We all know how difficult it would be while traveling, either locally or by bus, with bouquets. For the past two years, we have switched to gifting a chocolate box or basket and have partnered with a company called Chocoalacarte, who provides us with monthly supplies based on the number of birthdays in that month. Everyone is happy with the switch and recognition.
