Hi Katyayani,
You have raised an interesting point! According to my knowledge and perception, some of the best MBA programmes in India are being currently run by Management institutes such as IIMs, XLRI, FMS, JBIMS to name a few, therefore the perception. But of late the trend has been to convert these coveted insitutes into Universities like SIBM, NMIMS et al. So the fact is not that the good MBA programmes are not run by Universities, but that most of the University run MBA programmes are not the best in class. And at the time of hiring, since all the recruiters are looking for the best of candidates, they don’t give great weightage to Univ MBAs.
If one has done MBA form a Univ, its not that one doesnt hav that knowledge. Its just that one may hav to go that extra length and prove their worth to the recruiter who may hav the contrary perception to begin with. And mostly it comes out pretty well in the interviews. For overcoming this, you will need to hav an exceptional track record in your work experience, or extra curricular activities for getting considered during the shortlisting process. Thereafter you will hav to prove to the recruiter that you are actually at par with the best guys in the industry, which will not be a difficult task if you are really so.
Do let me know if you need more clarifications.
Regards,
Nupur
