Is it fine to join new employer immediately on next day of relieving date from current employer?

For example, if my relieving date is on 23rd September (Monday) in the current organization, can I join the next organization immediately on the next day if they have given me the date of joining as 24th September (Tuesday)? (Assuming both organizations are in the same city and I don't need to relocate).

Is it totally fine, or will there be any issues due to it? Do I need to request the next organization to postpone the date of joining? Please advise me since I am not very familiar with job switches and quite scared that something might go wrong and affect my career. Thanks in advance.

Dear member,

Yes, you can start new employment on the very next day after being relieved from your previous organization. Unless there is an overlap, there are no legal issues.

Thanks,

You can take the new job on the next day regardless of the location. I have done the same in a couple of my employments. You need to ensure that you are completing all the exit formalities and receive the relieving on the last working day. The date of exit should also be the last day from the existing company to avoid any challenges in the future.

There is nothing wrong or illegal to join the new company on the next day of previous employment. Check that all the official formalities have been completed duly before the new joining date. The old company marked the exit date as 23rd Sept '2024 in all the records and in the EPFO portal.

We have seen a few queries in the recent past on the 'overlapping' of the date of relieving and the date of joining. In order to avoid any confusion later, I would advise you to first receive and check your relieving date as stated in your Relieving Letter. If it is dated 23.9.24, which is a Monday, then you should also join the new company on 24.9.24, which is a Tuesday. No issue.

1) Ensure that your Date of Relieving is correctly stated therein (sort out any Notice Period issues if any).
2) Also, ensure that in your PF records, the Exit date is promptly marked as 23.9.24.
