Offered resignation instead of termination,will background check verification fail ?

I was asked to resign by my manager and HR due to wrong documentation on Salesforce which was done by mistake. I accepted my mistake and offered to resign. The company accepted it, and I have received my FnF and Service/relieving certificate where the reason for leaving the organization is stated as Resignation. There is no mention of this incident.

I have pursued higher education and have landed a job in a bank that uses First Advantage for background verification. What I am scared about is if the background verification would fail, and the HR would find out about the previous incident. The reporting manager who did this is no longer in the organization.

Will the HR from my previous organization state the reason for resignation as "resignation in lieu of termination"?

There was no show cause notice sent or any investigation opened; the conversation was with me, the manager, and HR on the call.

Should I consider a career outside corporate due to receiving a negative review in the background check?

The current company has also asked for a reference. I have an old manager and a coworker who is a team lead now who would give positive references, but will the HR reveal the situation of my departure to the BGV agency?

Instead of proceeding with termination, the company gave you the option of resignation, which suggests that the gravity of the mistake should be trivial or not very severe. Also, your ex-employer issued you the proper relieving/experience certificate.

Given the above context, your ex-employer is unlikely to provide negative feedback. After your tenure with your ex-employer, you pursued higher education, meaning that after a lapse of 1 or 2 years, you are now joining your current employer. Certainly, the Background Verification (BGV) Agency will inquire about the reason for your resignation. In cases of proper relieving, common reasons provided by HR are a better offer/personal reasons, etc. Therefore, hopefully, you will pass through the BGV process.

Nevertheless, if necessary, you may speak with your ex-HR and request positive feedback.

BGV email template will be there. Eligibility for rehire will be one of the questions. It will be the call of the ex-employer how to respond, but as long as there are no major issues during your stint, hopefully, you will clear the BGV.

It involves many parameters such as your experience, salary range, and the availability of manpower in the market with a skill set similar to yours. It depends on the employer, and we can't predict. Some employers or HR professionals who execute background verification processes may just do this as a ritual or process.
