Hi All,

Could anyone share with me the pre-employment medical checkup policy?

The policy varies from company to company as there is no mandatory provision in this regard. Many organizations would ask for a medical certificate to confirm that you are healthy and not suffering from any communicable disease. Others would have a full procedure of tests done in a related medical setup. The tests would include routine examinations such as vision and hearing checks, blood group testing, and even stress tests.

If the position is for young graduates, the tests will not be as rigorous. However, for lateral inductions into higher management roles, the tests would be more detailed. They may include HB1AC, full-body scanning, ECG, and other assessments.

Pre-employment medical check-up is mandatory under the Factories Act before engagement for any job from the Certifying Surgeon. Additionally, as mentioned by KK!HR, these are also required and may vary randomly from organization to organization.

In my opinion, a pre-employment medical check-up is always better, at least to verify the present health condition and to confirm that the person is not suffering from any terminal disease.

Would like to supplement the explanation given by our learned senior member, Mr. KKHR.

Pre-employment medical health check-up is mandatory in every organization since the arrival of the epidemic Covid-19. However, the requirements vary from company to company and also depend on the position level. For example, the recruitment of Welders, Vehicle Drivers, and other skilled jobs necessitates good eyesight, leading to selected candidates undergoing detailed eye examinations. On the other hand, managerial candidates are subjected to pre-employment medical examinations that may include psychological tests conducted by a qualified psychologist to assess their behavior in different situations. Additionally, they undergo tests to measure their blood pressure, cholesterol levels, cardiac health (ECG), EEG, among others.
