Does HR / company avoid my profile since I'm working in unknow/unfamilar/non-IT organization?

Hi, I'm currently working as a Software Engineer in a marine company for the past 1 year. Previously, I have worked with Cognizant and Accenture for more than 7 years.

Since I'm currently in a non-IT organization, is there any problem in joining back to big IT companies like TCS/Infosys etc? I do have proof such as an offer letter, UAN, PF, etc., and I never disclosed anything wrong. Will there be any problems in the background verification due to the unknown organization? However, my current company is registered and has been running for the past 16 years, but for IT, they started from the past 2 years.

Though it's a good and growing company, I always have a fear about joining IT companies and their HR policies. Does HR/company avoid my profile since I'm working in an unknown/unfamiliar/non-IT organization?

You claim that you are currently working as a Software Engineer in a non-IT company. As long as you work in the same field, I don't see any issues. However, I am not sure about your domain, whether you are in the same domain currently, which is similar to TCS/Infosys roles, or in a different role. As long as you possess the right skills required by the employer, there will not be any issues. Background verification (BGV) is limited to ascertaining the genuineness of your past employment, salary, and whether you were relieved, etc. Since you are disclosing current employment details, prospective employers will know about it.

The only disadvantage is if you are working in a different domain, the future employer may try to negotiate on the salary part or might not consider you, considering the gap.

What is your issue with the current organization? Is it that the company is not a reputed one? Do you know the names of all the companies in India? Can anybody say that only TCS, Infosys, or Cognizant are reputed companies? No. All companies have a name in their respective fields.

An employer will consider you only if they are satisfied with your past experience and the exposure that you should have gained in the field. If they find that your role in the current organization you work for is good and relevant to him, he will consider you for further discussion. If he thinks that the organization where you currently work is not a reputed one and his policy is to hire people who have worked in reputed firms only, then he will not consider your CV, and he will not spend time to go through it or call you for a personal interview. Therefore, if he has called you for an interview or has given you an offer letter, it should be construed that your past experience is okay for them. Then what is the relevance of a background verification? Let them do it. The background verification team cannot say that your immediate past employment was not with a reputed organization and therefore, your employment should be terminated. NO. Then why should you worry?

When you mention a different domain, I have worked with the Healthcare domain in previous companies and am currently working in a logistics domain. However, the working technology remains the same. As software engineers, we are not limited to a single domain or set of technologies. Even in IT companies, I have observed my friends working in diverse sectors such as Healthcare, Manufacturing, Banking, etc., utilizing the necessary technologies.

I'm afraid that here, there is no policy of providing CTC letters to the employees. Even during the year-end revision, they only mention the gross monthly salary in hard copy without any salary breakdown. Apart from the salary, they do provide festive and performance bonuses, which are not included in the revised letter or offer letter. Since I have been working there for more than a year, I have proof of bonuses in my payslip and bank statement.

In case I am looking for a job change and my future employers inquire about CTC and revised letters, what should I do? Whenever I approach HR to request the complete CTC, she asks why I need it and suspects that I have intentions of leaving the organization.

It's a great organization that offers plenty of benefits to employees, but these are not mentioned in the offer letter or revised letter. How should I handle this situation?

True, the organization may be fine, but they should follow some basic principles of HR, one of which is providing a salary revision letter every year. Perhaps it is the policy of the company so that no one will leave them. Legally, there is no requirement of a CTC letter, but a monthly payslip is more than enough to establish the salary of any employee. If your employer is giving it every month, or it is available in the HR portal to be downloaded, then that is enough. There is no need for any increment letter in that case. If they don't even provide you with payslips, then it is a major non-compliance on the part of the company. In such a situation, you can produce a bank statement to any new employer. This actually establishes the reason for your leaving the company as well; a company that does not issue annual increment letters or payslips to the employees is not a good place to work!

In the absence of letters to document a salary or salary increment, you can only show the bank statement to a new employer.

Probably you may try this: approach HR and inform them that you are planning to apply for a housing loan or another type of loan, for which you require a CTC certification letter. You can request a Bonafide certificate, which will verify your employment, designation, date of joining, and total salary with a breakdown. You can use this certificate as proof of your salary.
