EDLI - employee of our company died on 27.04.21 due to natural death but before death, he was on leave without pay

Dear Seniors, please let me know. One employee of our company died on 27.04.21 due to natural death but before death, he was on leave without pay from 01.03.21 to till death. Date of exit 27.04.21 and reason death. EDLI benefit paid to those employees who die while in service. Please let me know member's spouse will get an EDLI claim or not.

As mentioned in the query he continued to be an employee till death, the EDLI claim is admissible. Being on leave, of whatever nature, does not negate the liability for EDLI payment.

if the UAN of the employee was submitted with NCP days in previous months ECR, then he is all eligible for EDLI claim provided his service span is 1+ years

As long as his date of exit is not mentioned in PF ECR, he is continued to be in employment and is PF Member till the date of death.
By any chance was he covered under ESIS, if yes, had he obtained a medical certificate?
Now for a safer side ask the family members to obtain a medical certificate from the family doctor from whom he was getting medical treatment and keep it for your official record and mark him in office muster roll as sick till 27.04.2021.
There should not be any problem with getting EDLI claim settled.

yes, the member's spouse will get an EDLI claim 100% you will enter Date of Death 27.04.2021 in Employer Portal. Submit all documents.
