How to make change in the DATE OF BIRTH if the difference is more than 5 yrs

ARUNIYENGARBHAGAVAN
Dear All,

Can we upload a Voter ID as proof for a change in the Date of Birth if it is more than 5 years? The concerned person does not have a birth certificate or a 10th Std Marks sheet. Is it accepted by the EPFO authorities? Kindly advise.

A joint declaration along with proof of date of birth (DOB) has to be submitted through the employer. It is also necessary to make an amendment in Aadhar through an Aadhar facility center to avoid future problems with the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), as EPFO mainly relies on Aadhar authentication system for all transactions in the future.

The voter ID card is not proof of date of birth. The basic document is the extract of the birth register or the School Leaving Certificate. The other documents are self-declared and could be self-serving. Relying on them is a serious flaw and could open the floodgate for many such outrageous claims.

If the employee has no documentary proof, the declaration made by the employee at the time of his joining has to be accepted as final and binding for all purposes. There are reported cases where employees seek a change of date of birth nearing their retirement. In one organization, considering the genuineness of the document, it was agreed in one case. Within a short time, there were hundreds of requests, and it became a major botheration.
