You simply have to allow the concerned employee to avail of the national holiday.

For the current year, the National Holiday on 15th August 2020 falls on a Saturday, and you need to allow your employees to avail of this.

If a national holiday (Independence Day) falls on a Saturday, being a weekly holiday or non-working day, and if an organization decides to declare another holiday which is a festival, they can do so, and it is an extra benefit. However, if an employee is called to work on the Sunday on which the national holiday falls, then the employee is eligible for extra wages.

Hi Verma,

As other learned members indicated, the mandatory 3+1 compulsory holidays have to be observed throughout the country. All employees, except essential employees and others who are to be on duty as per their rotation, will have to be allowed on paid holiday. Those who had to work on these holidays will have the option to avail of a paid holiday on some other days as per the working arrangement with their reporting authorities or can have compensatory holidays as per SO or holiday wages, as the case may be. Details are discussed in the attached write-up.
