temperature in work place under AP shops & establishment act.

My establishment is covered under the AP Shops and Establishment Act. My question is whether there is any rule similar to Rule 17A of the Factories Act for the maintenance of temperature in the workplace. Please guide me. Thank you.

Dear Friend,

If your company falls under the definition of a factory, then the above rule will be applicable. 'Factory' means "any premises including the precincts thereof - (i) where ten or more workers are working, or were working on any day of the preceding twelve months, and in any part of which a manufacturing process is being carried on with the aid of power, or is ordinarily so carried on, or (ii) where twenty or more workers are working, or were working on any day of the preceding twelve months, and in any part of which a manufacturing process is being carried on without the aid of power.

Why this question? It gives an understanding that the workplace is not suitable due to hot and humid and unhealthy conditions. Chapter VI (Health and Safety), Sections 26 to 28 of the AP Shops and Establishment Act, 1988 address the question you raised. An employee can raise objections before the Inspector under the AP Shops and Establishment Act, 1988.
