Dear Nancy,
Those who want to grow, they grow anyway and do not wait for their organisation to grow them. Work of such persons gets noticed and they are given some sops. Whether the organisation gives them sops or not, they quit such company (or companies) and join somewhere else. Their march onward continues.
Growth depends on the standards that person sets for himself or herself. Higher the standards higher the growth.
Positive change comes with observation also. This sense of observation is the basic requirement of self-learning. Those who have belief on self-learning they learn new skills, find out mentor on their own to hone their skills further and become expert. Such persons acquire
Referent Power in the organisation and as they become reference person, management entrusts them more responsibility.
Those who expect others to grow them, they remain laggard. Take the case of this forum itself. Not necessarily all the members have belief on the quality of their posts. They disregard grammar, do not give any background information about their query and expect others to give them advice! Do you think that such people can grow even if their organisation grows them?
Thanks,
