Using the internet to get formats not equivalent to creating an HR department?

Dear all,

This message is only for my self-satisfaction. I am very sad today because I have been terminated from my designation during my probation period. I had only spent 28 days in the organization. While setting up the HR department, I was searching different websites, including this platform, to get the formats, take ideas, and then paste them after making changes.

My line manager told me that I was copying and pasting from the internet, while they needed someone to create the department. I was indeed doing a similar job but taking advantage of online resources. Let me know only one thing: whether I am wrong or right. This is solely for my self-satisfaction. If I am in the wrong, I will be more careful next time.

What has happened to you is unfortunate. The sudden loss of a job is as jarring as being in an accident. Accidents always leave a person bruised or scarred. This event must have dealt a significant blow to your career.

A few questions arise from your post. The first one is about your reporting authority. If you are from HR, then why do you report to the Line Manager? Is the authority of the Line Manager above that of the HR Manager?

Secondly, when the Line Manager objected to you browsing HR-related websites, how did you convince him? Is browsing websites during duty time prohibited? Did you explain to him that setting up a department may require collecting information from the public domain, so you do not have to reinvent the wheel?

Now, let us consider the opposite perspective. Perhaps your Line Manager values originality highly and views copying and pasting as plain plagiarism, which may be a reflection of his strong intellectual modesty. Someone who engages in plagiarism may lack self-esteem. He could hold such views. Thanks to Google, the current generation has become accustomed to copying or downloading information. He might detest that, but whether this assumption holds true or not is unclear.

Looking back at the incident, if the scenario presented in the previous paragraph is inaccurate, it seems that your Line Manager was upset with you for some reason, and the browsing of websites could have been a pretext to remove you. Otherwise, this could be considered a minor misconduct not warranting job termination. Partly, I attribute the outcome of the incident to your communication skills. The way you have written your post indicates a need to improve your communication skills. Lastly, did you attempt to understand the nature of the Line Manager? Is he the one making key decisions in the company? If so, it would have been advisable to seek permission for browsing HR-related websites.

In any case, do not lose heart. Perhaps you are destined for a better job. Therefore, start your job search vigorously. When updating your CV, exclude the mention of your 28-day tenure, as it could potentially create further issues for you. For any further queries, feel free to contact me.

There is a possibility that there could be other reasons, which they aren't revealing to you. Anyone who has access to the internet today uses many references to get their work done - including me. I don't think it would have been possible for me to build this without referencing programming material available online.

Please guide me. I want to protect myself from letters like termination. Is it possible to get a layoff letter instead of termination during the probation period from the management team? Please guide me because after the cancellation of my work permit visa, I am ineligible to stay one month more, and I want to avail it. But it is impossible having a termination letter because I can't mention it in any other interview. However, if they give me a layoff letter, I will be able to show the reason why I am here for an interview. Your early reply can lead me in the right direction.

If you acquire the relieving-cum-service letter from your last employer, it will not have much value. If you are laid off just after a 28-day tenure in that company, it could create suspicion in the mind of a future employer. Employees are laid off when there is not sufficient work for them. No company will recruit a candidate only to terminate after 28 days on the grounds of a lack of business.

Therefore, my recommendation is to not show this 28-day experience on your CV at all. Before this employment, did you work somewhere else? If yes, do you have an experience-cum-relieving letter from that company? If yes, try acquiring a job based on the strength of that letter rather than the one your last company will issue.

Please request your employer to allow you to resign from the job on personal grounds instead of facing termination.
